A New Platform for Authors Launches in South Africa

Teen Authors Ambassadors for a new authors digital platform

Alkebulan Authors Platform, a digital house focused on the distinctive voice of Africa told through the unique narratives, is set to launch at a glitzy event on the 09th of July at the Hilton Hotel. In addition, the platform announced its two ambassadors today, 14-year-old Author BhasweLihle Zilwa and 18-year-old Author Masindi Managa. BhasweLihle released her book titled Lihle’s Motivational Quotes for Teens earlier this year, while Masindi Managa launched her book titled Ardour last year.

On being appointed as the ambassador, BhasweLihle said, “As teens, we are often just ignored, with our voices not even heard. I am happy to be part of this great initiative. It is a space for me to voice out many issues young authors like me face and, most importantly, celebrate and highlight authors across the continent.” Masindi Managa hopes for a wider reach, “The future is digital; it makes sense for authors like myself to have conversations in that space while also connecting with like-minded authors from across the continent.”

The platform aims to create a growing continental literacy forum that will empower African authors and ensure they benefit financially from their craft and skill, making creative writing a viable developmental industry.

CELEBRATE A PLACE CALLED HOME WITH TREVOR STUURMAN AT THE SUNDAY BEST EXPERIENCE

Johannesburg, South Africa. As we are approaching the halfway point of Trevor Stuurman’s already phenomenally successful solo exhibition “A Place Called Home”. The Botho Project Space team today confirmed the Sunday Best Experience. Inviting all lovers of life to gather for a bespoke dining experience on the 12 and 19th of June respectively.

Aptly themed SUNDAY BEST. These specially curated experiences will be set in the beautiful garden of the home where Trevor’s exhibition is currently being hosted in Parktown, Johannesburg.

The first Sunday Best Experience will feature the phenomenal head chef. Mpho Phalane founder of FOOD I LOVE YOU Experiential catering company. Known for her colorful and abundant offerings. Centered on friends and family, her menu is a witty, gutsy, and stupidly simplistic take on recipes. A pairing of dishes and flavors. Celebrating the power of food and how it can bring us together. Food can be a metaphor for how we can create change and create the society that we want.

Award-winning Botswana singer/songwriter Mpho Sebina will be joining the festivities with a live performance. Sharing her sultry music with guests in the Sunday lunch setting in the garden.

A SUNDAY BEST experience. Quintessential South African powerhouse artist Zoë Modiga is the headliner with LeloWhatsGood on the decks. Drawing from human experiences, identity, and storytelling, she creates a distinct sound to communicate a modern. Evolving African story without losing its essence.

Well-known food extraordinaire Chef Mo will be preparing scrumptious dishes fit to celebrate home!

Tickets will be available at www.plankton.mobi and will include access to the exhibition. A Sunday Best meal, a Live performance, and Drinks (limited).

The SUNDAY BEST experiences have been made possible with the partnership with MINI South Africa and the French Institute.
