Meet the new Mqhele: Wiseman Mncube
Stained Glass, the production company behind The Wife, has confirmed that Wiseman Mncube will play Mqhele in S3 of the award-winning, record-breaking, Twitter-topping Showmax Original telenovela.
Wiseman is best known as Jama in eHostela, a performance that earned him the Best Actor in a TV Drama Golden Horn at the 2020 SAFTAs. He also played Sibonelo in Uzalo and will star in the upcoming epic Shaka iLembe.
As Mqhele, Wiseman replaces Bonko Khoza, who became a household name during The Wife’s run, hailed as “the national husband” by fans and nominated for DStv Mzansi Viewers’ Choice and SAFTA Awards for the role.
“What actor wouldn’t want to be part of The Wife?” asks Wiseman, who’s a fan of both the book and the show. “Mqhele is a very interesting role and I’m in my element: there’s a lot to chew on and play off, from the love story to the anger to the care. uBonko carried the role with so much respect and power. I’m not here to replace Bonko but to start my own journey as Mqhele and take things from where he left off and run with it in my own way.”
“Wiseman is a versatile performer with multiple accolades; Mqhele and his madness are in safe hands,” says series producer Kamogelo Aphane. “Wiseman’s work ethic and command of Zulu will take Mqhele to new heights this season.”
Early reactions on Twitter were positive.
Tweeps have been asking for Wiseman to play Mqhele since before S1.
Inspired by Dudu Busani-Dube’s bestselling book Naledi His Love, Season 3 of The Wife will return to South African screens in November 2022. Gaisang K Noge stars as doctor Naledi Montsho, who is in love with Qhawe Zulu (2022 DStv Mzansi Magic Viewers’ Choice Rising Star winner Kwenzo Ngcobo), dubbed “the Woolworths of amadoda” by Twitter. Each season has focused on a different couple: Hlomu and Mqhele in S1, Zandile and Nkosana in S2, and now Naledi and Qhawe.
Season 3 of The Wife starts production later this month and is set to launch on Showmax in November 2022.
J’SOMETHING GOES INDOORS FOR HIS LATEST TOUR
Johannesburg, South Africa – Multi-award-winning South African entertainer J’Something today announced his upcoming INDOOR Tour, launching in Cape Town in mid-September, before moving on to Durban and Johannesburg in the later part of the year.
As many people were re-evaluating their purpose during the lockdown, J’Something turned to music to keep grounded and sane. For an artist who was accustomed to live performances and public interaction almost daily, staying home suddenly became everyone’s reality.
And so was born the beginnings of the INDOOR, a 10-track ‘Mixtape’ that he made together with some of his industry friends.
Drawing inspiration from some of the greats that have inspired & shaped him in various ways over the years, the project is a creative and emotional expression and interpretation of what he hears when listening to the iconic songs featured on the project.
Having finally completed the almost two-year-long project early this year, J decided to showcase the project live to an indoor audience.
INDOOR is produced and directed by J’Something alongside the talented Sergio Botelho and the Jazzworx team.
This first-of-its-kind tour will feature J alongside his 3 piece band performing a full-length show, in the three major South African cities namely Cape Town, Durban, and Johannesburg.
“I started working on this project at the very beginning of lockdown, after years of touring, performing, and sharing music with people, to being told that entertainment was the least essential craft. As a professional, a talented, hardworking artist who had put their whole life into their craft, this was the most hurtful thing to be told’, stated J’Something and added, “That is why INDOOR is very close to my heart, it kept my fire burning through the lockdown, gave me direction and purpose in my craft. And now that it’s finally ready, I can’t wait to share it with the world.”

AFRICA’S PREMIERE JOBURG FILM FESTIVAL RETURNS IN EARLY 2023
Johannesburg, South Africa – Following a two-year hiatus, and as the global film industry recovers, the organizers of the Joburg Film Festival, in partnership with the MultiChoice Group, today announced the return of this leading film festival.
Now in its fifth year, the Joburg Film Festival was born out of the desire to create an exciting and independent platform that not only tells Africa’s stories, but curates, showcases, and rewards local and international excellence in film.
