Known as the “Tour de France of mountain biking”, the Cape Epic spans eight days and covers approximately 700 kilometres with a staggering 16,000 metres of climbing. It’s a testament to human endurance that draws participants from around the globe. This year, Pete and Nic, who have previously competed separately in the race, will join forces to tackle the rugged Western Cape mountainscape together.

Both Pete and Nic balance their intense training regimes with their roles as dedicated fathers and professionals—unlike the pros, they haven’t had all day, every day to train. “As much as the riding is fantastic, a lot of the time it’s a sufferfest out there, and everyone ends up digging pretty deep regardless of where they finish in the field,” says Pete. Their journey to the starting line isn’t just about the race; it’s about the stories, the camaraderie, and the shared ice-cold beers at the end of each day.

“Riding this year’s Epic with one of my best mates Nic Lamond, my hope is to enjoy and savour every moment,” says Pete. “We have talked about doing this race together for a long time, and we have been riding and racing bikes and drinking beers together for 12 years, so I don’t want to waste even one moment of it.”

As they face the epic challenge ahead, Pete and Nic will also be raising awareness and funds for Songo.info, a charity that combines sport and education to make a difference in the lives of children in Kayamandi. Pete and Nic have seen first hand the value of sport in bringing community together, and are both passionate about not only sharing, but embodying this philosophy. Post-race, the duo looks forward to sharing tales from the trails and raising a toast with their signature Jack Black CPAs at the finish line.

Join Jack Black in cheering on Pete and Nic as they embody the spirit of the brand—where it’s all about cold beer, good vibes, and that unforgettable finish-line feeling. To keep up with their journey, follow Jack Black on Instagram
