Lukhanyo Mdingi designs distinctive fashion for his eponymous label and is a part of the 2015 emerging creatives programme. While completing his design degree at the Cape Paninsula University of Technology, Lukhanyo Mdingi created two collections the first was the Granite collection a contrasting range based on hard, soft, matte and sheen elements that balanced ready-to-wear with avant-grande pieces The second collection, basics focuses on clean minimal looks that are strong and distinct, using fabrics that enhance and expose the female form Mdingi latest collection, Iridescence, aims to identify the meaning of avant-garde aesthetics with regards to fashion design, specifically focusing on menswear in South Africa. It is an investigation of how innovation and craft can be used to achieve the avant-garde as well as a study of form and the use of unconventional materials And that makes him one of the best designers in South Africa his unique take on clothing and fabric makes him a masterful tailor and visionary who we are looking forward in seeing in the future not only because of the clothing but to seeing the growth of this force to be reckoned with
