The first South African to host the MTV Europe Music Awards pre-show. The first South African to get their own E! News Special in Africa. The first Black South African to cover Glamour Magazine South Africa.

Bonang was born in the North West of South Africa. Her mother Charlotte was the Corporate Head of Human Resources at a major agriculture company, and her father Gampi was a senior lecturer at the University of North West. She has an older sister named Nthabiseng. Her parents divorced and her mother later married Joe Mokoena and had a son, Thabo Mokoena, Bonang’s halfbrother. The family relocated to Leondale, in the East of Johannesburg, while Bonang attended Fourways High School, a prestigious government co-ed school in Johannesburg’s affluent Northern Suburbs. In October 2016 Bonang was unveiled as an Ambassador for Ciroc Vodka in Africa alongside South African fashion designer David Tlale, hip hop recording artist Da L.E.S and club/radio DJ Dimplez. In 2017 after a trip to Brazil Bonang was named the new African Brand Ambassador for Ipanema sandals, taking over from Brazilian supermodel Gisele Bündchen it was later revealed that during her trip she had taken meetings with the Brazilian sandal-makers and even shot an advertisement in Rio de Janeiro.

In the same year Bonang released her autobiographical book “From A to B” written through Black Bird Books’ Thabiso Mahlape. The book received negative publicity from the South African public, with many lambasting the book on social media regarding its litany of spelling, grammatical and factual errors. The outcry led to the book being pulled from store shelves by book retailing giant Exclusive Books. It was later replaced with a 2nd edition where many of the previous errors were corrected. Also in 2017 her reality show “Being Bonang” was premiered on VuzuAMP, 14 July DStv channel 104. The show which gives a glimpse of her day-to-day life has been largely popular with South African viewers and season 2 began airing, 4 May 2018 on 1Magic DStv channel 103. In 2018 Bonang signed an endorsement deal with cellular network giant Cell C a deal that saw her partnering with them to also launch her own mobile app and an emoji pack called ‘BMoji’. The deal is said to net Bonang a reported R3 million. Also in 2018 Bonang hosted the Miss South Africa Diamond Jubilee spectacle where she was against notable host like Reyo Pucaso which took place at the Sun Arena in Pretoria. After the ceremony many took to social media to commend her for an exceptional showing of professionalism and her effortless hosting skill.
